"I left home on the 13th March and have since been to Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, Australia, back to Thailand, then onto France and Belgium! Before I left, that did seem to sound a bit nuts - travelling to all those countries within 12 weeks but it wasn’t actually as tiring as it might sound. For me, as I was in a different place or country each week there was a freshness to each event, and I think that helped me to feel energised despite a lot of travelling.
Results wise, my golf has been disappointing and I had a run of missed cuts to start my season. It’s not something I had planned for, and at times it has gotten me down and knocked my confidence but I have just been trying to improve each week and once I got a few events under my belt I started to feel much better about my game. I finally made the cut in New South Wales at
Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club - I think the name “Tweed” was a good omen for Scots like me and it was great to get that monkey off my back and to finally play on the weekend! I took a week off after that and spent it in Perth, Western Australia with my family that live there. It’s a beautiful place with gorgeous beaches and it was great to have a few days away from the golf
course and catch up with family I haven’t seen in a few years.
I headed back to Thailand afterwards for the first Aramco Team Series event, in which I was partnered with two other pros and an amateur. It was fun to play as a team as well as individually and I’m looking forward to playing the other team events this year. In both Thailand and Evian I had a great first round but unfortunately didn’t follow them up, so despite making the cuts in both events I was pretty disappointed. A sure sign there is more to come, I just need to keep believing it!
Most of my time whilst I have been away has been spent on the golf course, practicing and fitting in a few workouts each week but I did manage to go for a few coffees and beach walks in Australia as well as a jaunt to Byron Bay. I know I’m incredibly lucky to be able to travel as part of my job and the highs definitely outweigh the lows - missing bags and flight delays to name a few!
For now, I’m looking forward to my week off before another busy few months! I have 6 events in row starting with Sweden next week for the Scandinavian Mixed event with the men’s European Tour.
Wish me luck!"
